Moving Forward

A Proposal Guide:

1. Intention, agenda, motivation.

For next semester I would like to continue with 'comfort' as a form of support. I would like to use material and object as well as forms of display to start to arrange a narrative of the history of sites. I would like to think about how assemblage can become a system to support the narrative of sites. I have always been interested in the way assemblage can start to instruct and choreograph an encounter through spatial compositions. This inquiry into material, object and arrangement could sit within or externally to the different sites. I aim to investigate how I can layer information as shown within my diagram of how to tell a narrative of site. I aim to create awareness around the history of sites and also be in support of the sites by designing with consolation, in support and through giving strength to the sites.

2. Context

The context would be possibly be a gallery/museum context however if this sits within a heritage site it would have a cultural and social framework that I would address through means of engaging with historic research. I am interested in allowing people to engage with the assemblage in ways that art usually prohibits such as instructing the body to engage with object, material.

3. Site and/or Situation

  • Heritage Sites in Melbourne, extracting history through research

4. Audience. Occupants. Demographic. User Group

  • Arts and cultural community

  • Users that have been in or engaged with the particular heritage site I choose

  • If it sits within the heritage site it will be users of the site and visitors

5. Stakeholders

  • I assume that by choosing heritage sites they will be managed by cultural organisations that I would need to consult with to gather information

  • The community of the sites I choose

  • Heritage Council Victoria

6. Practice. Professionalism

  • I would need to consult councils of the sites

  • Gain data from the community to identify the significance of the site

  • Develop research around the particular site, acknowledging owners past and present

7. Design Approach

  • Identifying heritage sites with history that I am interested in

  • Responding to a multiplicity of situations from the sites through means of assemblage

8. Final Presentation

  • 1:1 interventions

  • Film and video work
